An NRI living in Oman can remit up to USD 1 million per financial year from an NRO account to Oman, including property sale proceeds and inheritance, after Indian tax and with Forms 15CA and 15CB. Money traceable to earlier remittances from Oman may go back through the NRE route. Our team puts the legal papers together and works with your chartered accountant and bank.

Repatriation of Funds from Oman: how it works
We document where the money came from: property bought with Indian funds or with rials sent from Oman, an inheritance, or deposits that have matured. The file includes sale and purchase deeds, the buyer's tax certificates, succession papers and NRO statements. A chartered accountant signs Form 15CB, Form 15CA is filed online, and the bank sends the funds. Sale proceeds of up to two homes bought with NRE or foreign money can be repatriated outside the annual ceiling.
Indian banks question large outward transfers closely, so we answer in advance with one organised set of papers. Oman has announced a personal income tax on high earners from 2028; until then, and for most residents afterwards, the tax issues are mainly Indian: correct deduction by the buyer and any refund due. We also check whether the deemed residency rule could apply to you. If the bank requests something unusual, such as a fresh consent from co-heirs, we deal with it directly so the transfer to Oman is not held up.
What clients in Oman should know
- Indian citizens with Indian income above ₹15 lakh and no tax liability abroad can be deemed resident in India; check before large sales.
- NRE interest is exempt in India; NRO interest is taxable.
- Sending more than USD 1 million from NRO funds in one April-to-March year requires prior RBI permission through your bank.
